Why We're Launching a Membership
Sharing my honest thoughts

Yesterday I announced that we’re working on launching a membership this year and, to be honest, I wasn’t sure how it would be received. I was nervous. I still am.
I’m going to be honest and a little bit vulnerable with you. 2026 is a sink or swim year for Playdate. I’m not ready to give up what we’re building but I have to pivot. We’ve hosted a lot of community events (15 to be exact) since our first one in 2024. All of our events, with the exception of 2 cooking workshops, have been totally free to attend. I’ve seen firsthand how important these gatherings are and I’ve loved being able to be part of something really special for families. But I’ve also had to face the hard truth that we haven’t been able to sustain it long term, and that’s something I’ve carried heavily.
The membership is how we continue. It will give us more room to properly plan, to be thoughtful, and to keep showing up. Separate from the membership, we will continue to host at least 1 free/open to the public community event annually. I know how important this space is and accessibility is crucial.
Transparency isn’t always easy but it is important. With that said, I can’t wait to share more about what the membership will entail as we continue to build it out together. I hope you’ll continue to support us on this new and exciting chapter! Thank you for being part of this.
