July 8th—here's where I'm taking my kids this week
Community Compost Day at Griffith, Kids Bike Races at Manhattan Beach Grand Prix and Lil' Ranchers Days at Leonis Adobe

Our free weekly email keeps you in the loop of local kid-friendly events and things to do 🤝
Since my kids have been out of school, we’ve been doing our best to keep busy but I’m still on the hunt for fun drop-in classes to try out. I’d love to have them both learn something new this summer, which is why I’m looking at either tennis lessons or surf school (so cute) via Bumo - I love how easy it is to browse by location, age, interest, etc. Not having to a commit to a full season or package classes up front is such a game changer. More on that below!

📍 Eagle Rock
Wednesday + Thursday 7/9 & 7/10 Little Ripper is hosting a Grocery Drive to collect essential items for our immigrant neighbors. They’re accepting pantry items, toiletries and other non perishable home goods items. Bring the whole family - craft materials will be available for kids to create supportive cards. Big thanks to LR for organizing such a thoughtful community event. Between the devastation in Texas and ongoing ICE raids, it’s hard not to feel heartbroken. I know so many parents are carrying this too. This event feels like a warm hug. (8am - 2pm)
📍 Woodland Hills
Thursday 7/10 Don’t miss the free Bubblemania show at Woodland Hills Branch Library. This interactive, educational, and entertaining program teaches about the science of bubbles. Kids will love the shimmering reflections of light, color, and flowing liquid motion. (3:30pm - 4:30pm)
*best of LAPL happening this week
📍 Culver City
Friday 7/11 Motion Flix is hosting free movie nights for families this summer at The Culver Steps. This week they’re screening one of the best, Jumanji! Enjoy complimentary popcorn for all. If you’re closer to Westwood, they’re showing The LEGO Movie: 2 the very next day at Westwood Village with the same set up! (8pm)
📍 Griffith Park
Saturday 7/12 Check out Community Compost Day LA at Griffith Park hosted by LA Compost. Enjoy sustainable workshops, a compost demo, tree adoptions, a kid-friendly seed ball station, live music, giveaways and more. This no waste, all-ages event is free to the public. (10am -1pm)
📍 Manhattan Beach
Sunday 7/13 Round up the bikes and head to Kids’ Races at Manhattan Beach Grand Prix. The community kids races are open to all kids ages 2-14 (and almost two, too). Tickets include a race number, souvenier t-shirt, goodie bag and a medal when they cross the finish line - so fun. (10:30am)
📍 Calabasas
Tuesday 7/15 (& every Tuesday through 8/5) Stop by Lil’ Ranchers Days at Leonis Adobe Museum. Kids activities and live music, feeding the ranch animals, crafts and more to keep the kids busy outside before it gets too hot. $8 admission for ages 2 and up. “The train restaurant” or Sagebrush Cantina is right next door and is a hit with my 5 year old because of the mini train track. I won’t lie, the food isn’t my favorite but when the train is running (call before to ask) it’s worth a stop. (9:30am - 11:30am)
*These aren’t ALL the family-friendly events happening this week in and around LA, just the best (IMO). We keep it short and curated—follow on IG + TT for more!
